Writing, Editing and Publishing Program

ACTS Ministry operates in Burkina Faso, West Africa, one of the poorest countries in the world.  Most Burkinabé people must survive with an income of less than US$1 per day.

ACTS is an expansion of Editions Contact which has been producing literature in Burkina Faso since 1991.

Editions Contact is reaching more than 18,000 people in hospitals, schools, and rural areas by magazine publishing, posters and booklets on HIV/AIDS and other issues dealing with development such as food storage and securing food from pests.

ACTS Ministry and Contact publishing together form a life transforming ministry which has contributed a great deal to the spiritual growth of many men and women.

The ministry seeks to reach the community with well-researched, in-depth teachings on Christian principles. We publish articles of enduring quality, interest and value, which deal with various kinds of problems confronting the men as well as the women and children of Burkina.

As a tool for evangelism and Christian growth, the magazine also carries articles that share faith and encourage Bible study and prayer.

Contact Junior was launched in May of 2009 for the children of Burkina Faso. It was welcomed by children as the only magazine of its kind in the country. Church pastors, lay workers and mission groups use this magazine as a tool for ministering to children.

We first committed ourselves to regularly publish a good Christian magazine for our people and step-by-step we have expanded to production of books written by nationals.

Books are published to aid widows in their tasks at home. Booklets include topics such as how to store food properly and safely, what to do when your child has a fever, basic business principles and finance.

Regular workshops are held during the year to train men and women who are interested in becoming better editors and translators.

ACTS publishes text books and leader training guides for the quick start school program for orphans and other children at risk who have not been able to attend school regularly.

ACTS produces books addressing women’s issues and holds workshops to familiarize pastors and lay leaders on how to effectively use published materials in their ministries.

The publishing program of ACTS has been able to expand due to the generous gifts of donors including Tyndale House Foundation in the US and Tear Fund in the UK. Books and booklets have been published that include:

  • Micro credit in Dioula language

  • Techniques to store cereals in Dioula language

  • HIV/AIDS in Dioula language

  • Micro Credit in Mooré language

  • Basics of the Christian Life in Mooré and Dioula

  • Mobilizing the Church in Mooré, Dioula and Gulmanchéma

  • Workshops for editors and budding writers on creating books in local languages

  • Various seminars for local leaders on how to use literature to make their outreach to rural poor more effective

A print shop in Bobo has been handling the printing of our literature. Using the available print shop in Bobo has cost additional project time, travel and expense for ACTS.

With additional funding, ACTS hopes to add a print shop for production of books, training manuals and magazines. The print shop will provide services to the community and bring additional income for ACTS Ministry.
