Sanitation

ACTS water and sanitation program improves the heath condition of widows, AIDS orphans and other vulnerable children in rural areas.

Teaching rural villagers the necessity of sanitation and helping with the digging of latrines for households is part of this project. In 2008, ACTS acquired a truck to facilitate the work. Latrines have been dug in Saonré and Ouissiga which was in great need.

Providing a safe water source is another goal of this program. In 2009, ACTS was able to drill a well in Ouisga where we have a Speed School and vocational programs established. Ouisga is a poverty-stricken village north-west of the capital city of Ouagadougou.

When city water came through the pipes, the children were eager to try a drink.

In the spring of 2009 ACTS was able to hook up with the pipes bringing city water out to large businesses south of Ouagadougou.

This means that city water is now available at the Ellel Medical Center!

What a wonderful blessing for ACTS and the poor who receive care at the hospital.

There are many other locations where basic health instruction, latrines and safe wells are needed.

Providing villagers with a safe water source and latrines would decrease the incidence of disease due to unsanitary conditions.

Information about HIV/AIDS prevention is part of ACTS overall program, but specific courses are given at village schools. To make this strategic outreach program to remote village schools more effective, ACTS is in need of additional motor bikes.

Specific objectives

  1. Instruction regarding good hygiene and sanitation practices among village populations

  2. Assist rural populations to bring safe water and sanitation infrastructures to rural sites

  3. Inform and test rural populations about sexual transmitted diseases, HIV/AIDS and epidemic diseases

  4. Fight malnutrition wherever ACTS works among the poor
