ACTS opens a bakery in the village - Update 2009

Jacob, an orphan from the ACTS Center, was an apprentice at the ACTS bakery. In the spring of 2009, Jacob took charge of the bakery for ACTS! This is a wonderful example of the growth of the orphans in the ACTS vocational programs.
In June 2008 the first bread came from the oven of the ACTS Bakery. Bread was not available in the communities surrounding the ACTS Center. If a family wanted bread they had to take the 15 kilometer journey into Ouagadougou to buy bread.
Now bread is available in walking distance for the villagers in Saonré at an affordable price. ACTS is baking bread without harmful additives that are put in the mix to make more loaves out of one batch of dough.
The bread at the ACTS Center is healthful, warm and affordable.

Bread is taken on ACTS mopeds outfitted with metal containers to Ouagadougou to be sold in grocery stores.
Orphans also take bread on bicycles to be sold in the local rural community surrounding the ACTS Center.
Since the bakery location is on the main road, travelers stop by the bakery to buy bread. The bakery is one of the projects that help to sustain ACTS Ministry.
The mill that grinds grain into flour is another money-making project for ACTS Ministry. Villagers pay a modest fee to have their grain ground into flour. Without the mill at the ACTS Center village women had to pound the grain into flour which takes hours and hours. The mill allows the women more time to participate in the ACTS programs.
The bakery is such a good witness to the love of Christ for the poor. He wants to provide their daily bread...spiritual and physical.
