ACTS Long-term Plan for village poor
ACTS LONG TERM RESPONSE – December 2009 through 2010
 |
| Clothing, blankets and food were distributed on September 17. ACTS does not discriminate as to religion, race or tribe. an evaluation has been made for reconstruction of widows homes. |
ACTS long term action is to help those who live in Ouagadougou and Saonré rebuild their homes and latrines with appropriate materials. The people who lost their houses built them with mud. New homes will have cement in the adobe mix for bricks.
Another important step would be to help restart washed out small businesses, which will allow them to be independent again.
This disaster is a surprise for the population, and they don’t know what to do nor do they have resources.
The intention of ACTS Ministry is to train people on disaster management; it will allow the population to be better equipped to help each other in the future.
ACTS Ministry will assist a total of 400 families that were severely hit by the flood both in Saonré and in the town where ACTS’ office is located.
In addition to the 400 families, 150 orphans will be able to go back to school, because they will receive school supplies and uniforms. ACTS targeted these people because we already have a relationship with them and our Center is located in their community. Therefore, concentrating our efforts and resources to help them would have a greater impact.
The government estimates that a total of 150,000 people left homeless. ACTS Ministry is coming alongside to help with this situation because ACTS work with poor and vulnerable people in rural areas.
Expected results in the long term
- 400 families - Reconstruct better houses and latrines that will withstand heavy rains in the future.
- 200 people are making some money through their small businesses in order to be able to provide for themselves and their families.
- 400 households are better equipped to face disaster in the future.
