ACTS Orphan Disaster Plan
From the first day of the flood, ACTS began assisting the children left without shelter. The Burkinabé government designated the ACTS Center an an official place of shelter for the homeless. At the present time, 180 families are staying at the ACTS' secondary school.

ACTS Ministry plans to assist infants and the children who were affected by this disaster, both in Saonré and Tingandogo.
Many families in the village had taken in orphaned children from relatives or friends. Because of the extremity of their situation after the flooding, they are no longer able to care for them.
Villagers, primarily subsistence farmers who provide their families with barely enough food from harvest to harvest, can no longer care for extra children. They have no home, no clothing, no food, no money to offer them.
It is a sad reality that these children will be without care in a few weeks. According to the above statistics there are a total of 252 affected infants and 290 affected children left without homes.
The desire of ACTS Ministry is to provide basic necessities of life to orphans such as: food, shelter, clothes and blankets, medicines, mosquito nets, beds and school supplies.
Since the new school year will begin in October, the Minister of Education told the refugee people they must leave the school by the end of September.
ACTS Ministry wants to take more orphaned children at the Hope Center Orphanage, but in order to take some of the orphaned children; it will be necessary to build two additional dormitories.
The budget below will allow ACTS to care for the additional orphaned and abandoned children from the villages of Saonré and Tingandogo.

Background on Disaster
A flooding disaster occurred on September 1, 2009 in the city of Ouagadougou and in the rural community around Saonré, located in the district of Komsilga. Prime Minister Tertius Zongo said that an estimated 150,000 people are homeless; this estimation does not include people that were impacted in the villages such as Saonré. He said this was the heaviest downpour since 1919.
ACTS Ministry plans to assist the poor in rural areas who have been hit the hardest by this disaster. They lost homes, belongings, clothing and food. Any money stored in their homes was lost.
In Ouagadougou the staff at the national hospital fled the hospital when the floods began rising leaving the patients to fend for themselves. Storehouses and markets where grain is sold were inundated by water and grain sacks stacked on the floor were destroyed. Grain is a precious and costly commodity at this “lean” time of year. The reduction of supply will cause great hardship and many families will be unable to buy food.
The rain exceeded 12 inches within a few hours. The city of Ouagadougou and rural communities could not contain this quantity of water due to the lack of appropriate infrastructure. The poor urban and rural populations have a tenuous existence in the best of times and this disaster makes them more susceptible to disease, despair and death.
Conclusion
This project addresses the specialized needs of orphaned and abandoned children after the flood disaster that hit Burkina Faso with a record-breaking quantity of water. ACTS Ministry is working with the poor and vulnerable ones, orphans widows and other people without support.
The plan will be a way for ACTS to show the love of God in a tangible way, and give abandoned orphans hope and assurance that even in the midst of difficulties God loves them.
