Sponsoring a student reaps rewards

| Primary students waiting for classes to begin on the first day of school, October 1, 2009. Total number of students enrolled for the 2009-2010 school year at all the ACTS schools is 1377. |

A preschool for the orphans living at the ACTS Center opened in October 2008. They are learning the basics for their age group including French which is the national language. Village children speak only tribal languages.

Orphans, vulnerable children and at-risk youth are among the most exploited of the country's population. Limited access to educational opportunities keeps these children in the grip of poverty. Without educational opportunities, many children fall into the hands of those who exploit them for prostitution.
ACTS educational program of kindergarden, primary, secondary as well as speed school for those who are struggling with their studies provide the hope of a brighter future for village children.
Sponsoring a student in one of the ACTS schools insures that the student receives a uniform, textbooks, supplies, daily lunch and basic medical care.

Care for students goes far beyond the basics. ACTS encourages orphans and vulnerable children to reach their potential. They are taught in an environment that gives them self-confidence and worth as a human being.
We will provide you with the name, a photo of your student and a few details. If you wish, you may choose a boy or girl.
If you want to sponsor a child, send an email to actsministry05@sbcglobal.net.
If you would like more information, please relay your questions to the same address.
ACTS students received high marks on national exams at the end of the last term. In fact, several students received awards for their excellence.

There was no secondary school within walking distance of the village, so ACTS launched a secondary school in October 2008. The school began with 56 enrolled. This includes the orphans from the ACTS Center and young people from the village who are paying a modest fee for their students to be enrolled. Because this is the first year, we limited the number of students from the village.
After two weeks of the launching of the secondary school, one of the students from the village had already accepted the Lord. This is her testimony:
Tao Safiatou, a teenage girl who attends ACTS secondary school, comes from a Muslim family. She knocked on Rose's door at the orphanage and asked to talk to her. Rose is the wonderful Spirit filled and loving "mother" for the orphans at the ACTS orphanage. Everyone who meets her wants to stay close to her because she is so kindly. Tao felt comfortable talking to Rose about the Lord. She said she wanted to give her life to the Lord and asked Rose to instruct her about how to live as a Christian. Rose prayed with her and will, with the help of the rest of the staff, begin to disciple Tao.
The secondary school opened for the first time in October 2008 with 56 students and 85 studetns have enrolled for the 2010-2011 school year. We are praising God for his faithfulness. It is so wonderful to hear that Joanna's vision for bringing the Gospel to secondary students is bringing forth fruit.
The school allows the ACTS orphans to complete their education through high school at no cost.

Students received awards for their academic achievements at the end of the 2008-09 school year. The story of little 8 year old Jules can be found in the July-August 2009 newsletter (see link under Newsletters in the right hand column of this page). |
Along with the full load of academic subjects, students at the secondary school study the Bible lessons given at the ACTS Charis Bible College. all students at the secondary school must take this course, but not all students at the Charis Bible College are secondary students. There are few Bible courses in the country and many pastors and lay leaders need biblical teaching. This is why Charis Bible College was begun.
School fees in Burkina are too costly for village families. Few village children attend school. Some children are able to only periodically attend when their family has enough money or when the students are not needed to work at home or in the fields.
Families rarely send their girls to school as they don't feel it is necessary. Girls will just become mothers and work in the fields and home. Tao was fortunate that her family sent her to the ACTS school.
